Square dancing involves four couples that listen to a call and dance patterns learned. It is fun and invigorating. The four couples make a square and dance one tip, consists of a patter call and a singing call. Square dancing has been around since the 17th century.
It is first known from England but is very popular in France and Europe. It contains many similarities to the Scottish Country Dancing. There are two types of square dancing: Traditional and Modern Western. The Traditional form is danced to country dance music such as Irish jigs and reels and generally performed live with instruments of fiddle, banjo, guitar and double bass. Modern Western is danced to a variety of music ranging from pop to contemporary to traditional to broadway musical to country. It is often recorded music and the beat faster.
